Man, I am super proud of this. I think the inking turned out pretty well (although I had to edit out a lot of smudges from accidentally putting my hand in wet ink) and I think it’s a pretty hilarious joke, although one might not everyone will get, since it’s fairly contingent on A)being familiar with that expression, and B) being familiar with the trope of a father going out “to get cigarettes” and never returning. Deadbeat dads! Hilarity!

Anyway, panel three is artistically inspired by Blankets, and panel four is kinda inspired by Gary Larson, i.e. the Farside, although more indirectly than the Blankets inspiration. I just read Blankets, and it’s probably the best comics thing I’ve ever read.
